Gay Lingo and Misogyny Conclusion

In my most recent post.  I wanted to bring up the discussion of misogyny within the gay community.  I wanted to hear from black females in regards to gay men referring to them as fish, cunt, pussy etc etc etc.  I thought it would be a great to hear from a few gay black men as well.

Here are a few responses.  What do you think?  My thoughts are down below the responses.

Let me know what you think?

Here are my thoughts.  The verdict is…

I still feel that gay men are still men.  They identify as men and have male privilege.  While they lie at an intersection where their sexuality oppresses them, there is no excuse to dismiss the privilege they obtain from having a penis.  We live in a time now where sexuality is not as damning.  You can still have male privilege and be gay.  This is especially true for those men who practice masculinity.

The uses of these terms are sexist and comes from misogyny.  For me, there is a misogynistic undertone in the gay community.  I am speaking specifically of gay men.  More specifically I would like to focus on black gay men.

While gay men may not objectify the female body for the same purposes, they objectify the female body nonetheless.  Referring to women by the terms fish, cunt, pussy etc etc etc dehumanizes the female body.  The black female body has suffered this dehumanization since the Arab Slave Trade.  And yes, It still occurs.

Remember the cake shaped in the essence of Hotentot Venus where white people were carving out pieces of the vagina and abdomen with a man in black face screaming for every slice cut.

This is evident of  the behavior that is specifically geared towards the black female body globally.  The dehumanization and otherness the black female body in the history of the world compares to no other group.  This deep rooted hatred of black women translates into many aspects of American culture, whether it is in the media, the policies, or the policing.

This, of course, translates into the gay culture as well.  This hatred and dehumanization of the black female body manifests itself when gay people refer to the black females as fish, cunt, and pussy.  It devalues their worth to their genitalia, which has been fetishized by America for all of it’s history.

IT IS FRIGHTENING!!!

The word Cis is something that relates to males and females who accepted their gender roles given to them at birth.  I understand the frustration that can come from black women as relates to this word being used on their bodies because of the dehumanization process their bodies have gone through throughout history.  Any term that others black women is just as polarizing and dangerous as jezebel or mammy.  Cis attempts to reduce the effect of otherness that occurs when a person is trans or agender.  However, as it relates to the black female body, it serves as the same kind of  threat as any other term that has othered black female bodies in the past.  However, this is not to dismiss the womanhood or feminity of transwomen.  The term
Cis is is a term coined specifically to separate females and males who accepted their given gender roles vs those who may have had to fight to be accepted for theirs.

Again the Cis debate may go on for a while being that it is fairly new.  I may change my views on it.

As it relates to gay black men, the other terms on that list, it is a big NO for me in regards to using them.  Gay men are still men.  They have male privilege and should never refer to women, especially BLACK women, by their genitalia or any other objectifying tool.

These are my thoughts.

What do you think?!
