Harriet Tubman on the $20 Bill

But not so great.  It is good because we have a black person on the main tool of mobilization in the country and the world.  A free black ex slave who helped freed other black slaves is on the dollar bill that families of those slave owners will work for and fight for.  This is great.  However, it does not make much sense.

The bills in this country are extremely symbolic.  The reason presidents were placed on the dollar bill was to represent the idea that presidents were owned by the people being that they were public figures.  This is my thinking.  To me I saw the presidents on the bills to represent our ownership of the governing system in America.  Whether it is true or not.

However, being that an ex slave is on the bill, it makes me think that there is a snide meaning behind it.  We are taught that we own money and whether you believe that money owns us is a different argument for a different post.  For this post I want to say that we are taught that we own money.  Meaning that we own what the bills represent, which is a piece of the government being that all money is sanctioned by governing systems by various nations.

Harriet Tubman did not represent this.  She represented the rebellion against the governing system.  She was a criminal.  By all means, Harriet Tubman was a criminal.  But as Thomas Jefferson stated, “If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.”  So I think Harriet Tubman was correct in her actions.  But it does make her a criminal.  She represents the opposition to governing systems that have laws that are unjust.  America is still a governing system that has unjust laws.  So why are is she on the bill that represents the government with a judicial system that has incarcerated more black men than any other first world country.

Harriet Tubman does not represent the government.  She opposed the system.

It is a way to apologize in my opinion.  I guess if you can not give us reparations than at least put us on the money they promised to give black people.

Harriet Tubman does not represent the government.  She opposed the system.

But a win is a win though.  SO I GUESS….
